School Counselor

Counselor Corner

My name is Ashley Malmquist, and I am the new K-5 School Counselor at Ware Elementary! I am very excited to be joining this community and school. Whether you are new to our school (like me!) or a returning member of the Ware family I am so glad you are here. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything.

At Ware Elementary School, I work with staff to deliver a comprehensive school counseling program that follows the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) framework in order so sup-port the whole student. The counseling program focuses on the academic, social/emotional, and career needs of all K-5 students through classroom lessons, small groups, and individual services. I am looking forward to working with you and your family to make this a positive year!

October 2021 News

Hello, Ware Bears and Ware Families! Last month, classroom counseling lessons for kindergarten to third grade students focused on identifying and expressing feelings and expressing needs when experiencing strong emotions. Fourth and fifth grade students received a lesson on belonging and community and just recently received a lesson on growth vs.
fixed mindset.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, the focus of lessons in October will be surrounding the topic of bullying through teaching students about kindness, character, empathy, and inclusion.
We will be talking about different types of bullying behavior (physical, verbal, emotional, cyberbullying), ways to handle this behavior, and how to ask an adult for help.

Below are some great resources and books to use at home with your student.
Check out these books on bullying, kindness, and inclusion:
