Title IX is a section of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prevents discrimination in schools and in educational opportunities based on sex. It requires schools that receive federal funding to provide equal opportunities in all programs for both male and female students.
According to the amendment: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
